A rolling stone finds a home
1917
Texas senator Claude Hudspeth proposes the creation of a teachers’ college in El Paso. Many aspiring teachers from the region had been enrolling at the School of Mines to earn credits toward a state teaching credential. The legislature instead placed the teaching college in Alpine (today’s Sul Ross University). — El Paso Herald
1989
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approves the relocation of the Geological Sciences Department into the building formerly occupied by the library. The department had been previously housed in seven different buildings across campus. — Prospector
